The Cayuga Economic Development Agency (CEDA) will host its annual Economic Forecast Luncheon Thursday, January 24, 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Hilton Garden Inn, 74 State Street, Auburn, NY.

This year, our keynote speaker is Randy Cohen, Vice President of Research & Policy for Americans for the Arts, a national advocacy organization for the arts. Randy has been with the organization for 27 years. He publishes Americans Speak Out About the Arts, a national public opinion study about the arts as well as the two premier economic studies of the arts—Arts & Economic Prosperity, the national economic impact study of nonprofit arts organizations and their audiences; and Creative Industries, a mapping study of the nation’s 675,000 arts businesses and their employees.

Randy has visited our area twice in recent years. He first arrived in 2009 to speak to local government officials and the business community about how nonprofit arts organizations spur economic development. Mr. Cohen returned in 2012 to deliver the results of his organization’s “Arts and Economic Prosperity IV” study of arts and culture spending in 182 U.S. regions, which included Auburn.

In his keynote address, Randy will explain how art is a serious business making significant contributions to our local economy through job creation and bolstering tourism and quality of life.  Arts and culture has become a major player in our local economy with the opening of the Equal Rights Heritage Center, the development of the Harriet Tubman National Historical Park, renovation of the Schines Theater, alongside our current arts organizations. Randy will share how the arts are improving the Auburn area’s economy by supporting jobs and generating tourism, improving education, and unifying communities. Guests will be welcome to ask questions as time allows.

There will also be a presentation by CEDA’s Executive Director, Tracy Verrier, exploring local and regional economic trends in various industries. CEDA’s 2018 Annual Report, highlighting projects and activities over the last year, will also be distributed to guests at the luncheon.

Doors open at 11:30 a.m.  There is a $40 event fee, and a buffet-style lunch will be served.  CLICK HERE to register online.  This event is sponsored by Hilton Garden Inn, Auburn, NY.

This luncheon is an excellent way to kick-start the year with valuable insight into our local economy, as well as a chance to connect with fellow business leaders and elected officials in attendance and learn more about what is ahead in 2019.
