Discover the Leader in You!

Mission Statement
To empower diverse individuals with the knowledge, skills and inspiration to successfully achieve leadership roles while developing a collective resource, & problem solving network to address present and future community needs and challenges.

The Leadership Challenge
One measure of a community’s greatness is the voluntary contribution made by its leaders. Leadership Cayuga, a six-month program of the Cayuga County Chamber of Commerce, stimulates public-minded thinking and increases the base of informed, capable leaders who are committed to using their talents to add to the vitality of our community.
For more than 20 years, Leadership Cayuga, has prided itself on graduating dedicated community leaders. Without a doubt, our 400 plus alumni are among the most informed volunteers in Cayuga County.

The Community Leadership Award

Every year, Leadership Cayuga Alumni are invited to nominate a deserving candidate for the Community Leadership Award. This award recognizes a fellow Leadership Cayuga Alumnus who is a champion of our community, participates in civic organizations, takes leadership roles in an organization that he or she supports and has an impact on the growth of our community or a particular cause.

2011 Community Leadership Award Recipient

Thank you to all who submitted nominations. We have selected this year’s award recipient and hope you will join us on September 29 as we recognize Jill Fandrich, Class of 1990, and present her with her award.

2012 Leadership Cayuga Projects
Leadership Cayuga participants must undertake projects that address a community need; an idea or project that might otherwise not be addressed. Throughout the process, they experience teamwork in action, including the critical roles of leaders and followers.

The Leadership Cayuga Class of 2012 project teams will each select a community based project at their Opening Retreat in January to complete by early May. Leadership Cayuga Projects are designed to:

  • Directly deal with an issue that affects the economic or social climate of Cayuga County.
  • Have an impact on the issue, once the project is adopted by the appropriate agency or organization.
  • Give the class participants the opportunity to develop leadership and team-building skills while working toward a common goal.

Does your organization have a project you’d love to tackle but Lack the time to address? Do you have an idea for a community-wide issue or program that should be explored? For details or to submit an idea, please click on the link below to download the information forms:

The Leadership Cayuga participants are comprised of small business owners, public servants, corporate executives, social service agency professionals, area youth and other concerned members of the community. The youth component of Leadership Cayuga encourages future leaders to be active, contributing members of their community. High school seniors join adult participants as peers through the entire program, to gain a better understanding of the complexity of community issues, while developing and defining their leadership skills.

  • You are committed to your personal leadership development;
  • You anticipate an active role in business and community activities;

Tuition may be paid by the participant, business firm or organization, or a combination of both and must be received before the overnight retreat.

Tuition contribution for Youth Leadership participants is $200.  The remainder of the youth tuition is funded by business or community organizations, and through contributions to a scholarship fund.
